Abstract
Cryptococcus neoformans is an encapsulated fungal microorganism that can cause disease in immunocompetent, as well as immunocomprimised, hosts. Life-threatening infections caused by the encapsulated fungal pathogen C. eoformans have been increasing steadily over the past 10 years. We have experienced a case of 3 years old girl infected liver, skin and lymph nodes with jundice and hepatomegaly. Needle biopsy specimens examined periodic acid Schiff reaction, alcian blue and Gomori¢¥s methenamine silver stain to light microscopy. Electron microscopic assay was followed after glutaraldehyde fixation and deparaffinization of the tissues. From Results of the special stains we can identify C. neoformans, giant cells and lymphocytes with fibrosis finding in the infected tissue. Transmission electron microscopic findings disclose phagocytic feature by Kupffer cells in liver. Scanning electron microscopy is also seen capsular cell wall within giant cells. In conclusion, we recommend to stain for polysaccharide stain simultaneously.
